Preparation for Ultrasound

Pelvic/Prostate:
You must drink 4 eight ounce glasses of fluids (water, juice, coffee or tea), completing them one hour prior to your appointment. Do not go to the bathroom after drinking fluids. A full bladder is necessary for the examination.

Gallbladder/Liver/Pancreas(Abdomen):
Take nothing by mouth six hours before examination. Avoid gas producing foods, such as: beans or carbonated beverages, for a day or two prior to the examination.

Aorta/Liver/Spleen/Renal/Nodes/Kidney (Retroperitoneal):
Take nothing by mouth six hours before examination. Avoid gas producing foods, such as: beans or carbonated beverages, for a day or two prior to the examination.


 

 


Preparation for cardiac cath

1) Please bring your insurance cards and a picture ID, such as a drivers license, with you to the admitting office.
2) Please bring all your medications or a list of all your medications with you.
3) Unless otherwise instructed, you are not to have anything to eat or drink after midnight prior to the Cath. You may take your morning medications with a small sip of water.
4) If you are a diabetic do not take your insulin unless otherwise instructed.
5) Please leave all of your valuables and jewelry at home. You will need to bring your glasses as you will need to read and sign forms.
6) Someone must accompany you to the hospital so that they can drive you home after you are discharged - approximately 5-6 hours after the procedure. (In case of Angioplasty you may be in the hospital overnight.)

7) The hospital will contact you prior to the procedure date for insurance information and to give you the time to be at the hospital.


Preparation for Nuclear Stress Test

1) No caffeine 24 hours prior to the test
2) No diabetic medication.
3) Light breakfast 2 hours prior to the test and drink some water.
